Name: POCHILIMA, ( GANJAM )

 Type:Pond, Size: Approx 1 Km, Location: POCHILIMA, ( GANJAM )

Brief History:  

The pond Sanabandha was built in 1872. On that time there was not any water body resources for drinking water of villagers of Pochilima. For this reason some people of Makarjhola ,village dug that pond. After dug the pond the Pochilima villagers got drinking water from that water body. After few years one day a person died in that pond for some reason. That’s why the people of the Pochilima village gathered and organised a worship in that village, and again the people started using the water of this pond for drinking and bathing..

Socio-religious significance:

In the year 1899 there was built a temple of goddes Kali in the side of that pond. From that year till now every year the people of that village celebrates the festival visubha sankranti (named as Danda Nacha in district Ganjam) in that pond. For this purpose also, the pond is famous in that locality.

Economic significance:  

The water of that pond is used for providing water for the crops of nearly fields of that pond. And it is also used for fish farming but it is not profitable.

What is the current condition? Any efforts to clean up or rejuvenate the waterbody?

At present the pond is having very bad condition. It has turned out to be a dump yard and is not being used properly. Before two years there was an initiative to revive the development of the pond. But this was unfortunately stopped for some reasons unknownNow the condition of that pond is dirty and polluted. In that pond the people of that village bathing and putting the waste material in that pond. For this reason the water of that pond is polluting. PEOPLE ARE NOT INTRESTED TO CLEAN THE POND BECAUSE THEY ARE TELLING THE GOVT SHOULD TAKE ALL THE RESPONSIBILITIES TO CLEAN THE POND.
