BRIEF HISTORY:
The pond Ranipokhari has well significance in the history of Bhanjdeo Dynasty. It was
built near 1920 AD by then herhighness Maharani Takhatkumari. She built it for the
welfare of the people of Takatpur village which named after the village. The queen was
exiled by then king and send to the outskirt of mahal with few servants. There she found
the scarecity of drinking water which she resolve by built this pond. She also built a small
village which becames a town now.
There is some myth and stories also attached to the history of this pond. People very often
tells about these stories and incidents. Few unfortunate incidents also happened near this
pond. Since last four years in between Laxmi puja and kali puja four people died near the
pond mysteriously. Some people tells that they are dreaming about the pond which makes
them fear in their minds.
SOCIO-RELIGIOUS SIGNIFICANCE:
There is two beautiful temple near the pond. One of them was built by then queen
TAkhatkumari named Banabihari Radhakrushna Temple. It is also built in the
same year and another temple was built by the local people. People worship this
pond during September- October of the year. A mela also organized around this
pond during sivratri.
ECONOMIC SIGNIFICANCE:
There is village construct near this pond. People near the pond are dependent for
their agriculture , fishing and growing lotus flower, irrigated their crop field etc.
People near the pond are fully dependant on this fond for summer agriculture.

What is the current condition? Any efforts to clean up or rejuvenate the
waterbody?
Now after the boundaries built by north Odisha university the water get
tucked and also polluted. Whole pond is covered with lotus leaf and grass
root.
