BRIEF HISTORY:  

The tank was built between 1890 to 1895 by Mr. Nishamani Prusty, who belonged to a rich family & a close person to the king at that time also a great devotee of Lord Radha Krishna. The tank is spread over a vast area which features an island in the middle called (Dipidandi) this tank is considered Holy and has a Radha Mohan temple on the West Bank.

SOCIO-RELIGIOUS SIGNIFICANCE:

It was hallowed by local people. Because here in the month of June to July similar Chandan yatra of the Lord Jagannath Chandan Yatra was used to observe & in this 21 days’ festival the main deity of Lord Radha Krishna was taken to the pond where they have cleaned sandalwood then it was followed by a boat ride (Chapa Khela) in the pond. which is known as also dependent on this.

ECONOMIC SIGNIFICANCE:  

The pond was also helpful to the farmers as it was located near the agricultural land the local people wear highly dependent on this water body for their livelihood. Also, lot more vegetables were cultivated & also fish cultivation was going on at that time.   

What is the current condition? Any efforts to clean up or rejuvenate the waterbody?

If I talk about today, then this pond is completely destroyed due to a quarrel in the family. The day-to-day maintenance of this temple and pond cannot be possible. The court gave a stay order on this property for moreover 26 years. During this period this temple was broken down and pond water was polluted between these years the ponds water was totally dried up due to a lack of conservation measures various, so many types of aquatic plants have risen in the pond and the reservation admin buried its water covered with a layer of soak green plants, We the villagers restored the temple with our own found & also want to renovate the pond but we are helpless because of the court stay order decision.

PROSPECT:

PROBLEM STATEMENT IDENTIFIED: 

This pond need restoration. We villagers are planning to restore it. The issue is the case is still pending in honorable court.
